After leaving Skooliepalooza in Arizona, it was off to Florida. Getting out of the cold and into a warmer environment was something we were all looking forward too. Kicking off our Florida adventure was an event called Skoolie Swarm.
Skoolie Swarm is an ongoing, organized gathering of people living, travelling, or vacationing in their skoolies. This time the event was held in northern Florida, although there can be meet-ups throughout the year and in different areas.
For this week long event Jason was working in Oklahoma and the kids and I hung out meeting everyone there for the first time. The weather was fantastic; cool in the evenings, hot right at mid day, and warm all the other hours. Surprisingly the bugs were fantastic as well, as we never had a problem with them.
Someone else described the event like family summer camp. I thought that was pretty accuarte as the kids were pretty much missing all day running around with newly made friends. They played a lot of Gagga ball (never heard of in in my life until now), there was a pool and zip line. Different organized events. Group bonfires and some themed group meals.
People of course loved Bob. And I loved that people wanted to give him treats. Getting to know people and seeing their builds was really fun, and I loved hearing the stories that went along with them.
The Builds
Gabriella and Jachus @vanbulance_life self converted their ambulance into a home on wheels. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and finding out that both of them were homeschooled! Jachus has had a love of moths and butterflies since being a kid and the two of them have turned this love into a career. He is so passionate about it and I hope you have time to find out more on their website, designedfordiscovery.org.
I got to know Lorena and Aaron first from trying their coffee. I was instantly impressed with how they are making money on the road! They are passionate about the coffee (it was so good) but equally about crafts. Ellie and Tyler came back one afternoon knowing how to make square knots after Lorena had taught them. I wish them success in their coffee business. You can find more of them @craftsandtravels.
My hope with these bus tours is that they can be helpful to someone in the build processes. That hopefully there is at least one thing that makes it easier or even sparks an idea of how to do something. And if your not building a bus, maybe these people living this way will inspire you to get out and see nature more, or try something new.
